Monthly Favorites

Hi guys! I'm starting a new series called Monthly Favorites. At the end of each month I will have a list of things from the month that I got to enjoy or simply inspired me, that I want share with ya'll. Enjoy!

1. I recently visited the new Yves Saint Laurent exhibit at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts with my family. It showcases hundreds of his designs and dresses while telling the story of his life. It is a must-see if you are in the area.

2. A pretty array of chocolates a sweet friend brought back from Grenoble, France.

3. A new blog I found via laurenconrad.com called Find Us Lost. It's written by a couple who recently moved to Europe so they could travel to different countries more. Their website is full of beautiful photos from their adventures that will give you major wanderlust.

5. I love the artistry behind this hand-painted dress designer Vivienne Westwood made for Elle Fanning.

6. I made chicken (and vegetarian black bean) enchiladas for my family using these recipes (enchiladadasauce)- which didn't turn out too bad if I say so myself!

7. A fun photoshoot with the girls from the small group Bible study I led this year, right before our spring semi-formal.

If there's anything that inspired you this month, feel free to share it with me!

My Favorite Looks from the Met Gala

The Met Gala is a fundraiser held by New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art the first Monday in May, which raises money for its Costume (Fashion) department. Every year it exhibits a show that sets a "theme" for its A-list guests to dress by. This year's show was Comme des Garcons from Tokyo and Paris based designer Rei Kawakubo whose designs are part of a new exhibit at the Met.

The Gala (hosted by Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour) is known for letting celebrities express themselves with unique looks based the theme. I love looking at the fashions from almost every awards show, but the Met Gala always brings it to a new level because of the artistic focus of the night. Here are some of my personal favorite looks from the night:

Ruth Negga

I like the unique shape of this Valentino dress and how Ruth pulls it off without it seeming like she's wearing a poncho. The pattern on the back is amazing and reminds me of a beautiful watercolor painting.

Blake Lively
The main reason I like this Versace dress is because of the amazing array of feathers. I like how at the top it looks like an ordinary evening gown, but the bottom brings in the theme of art and costume.

Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez looks like royalty in this flowy dress by Valentino. The color, fabric, and cut make it so whimsical and magical.

Diane Kruger
I appreciate the classic simplicity of this dress by Prada. The pattern is simple but beautiful, and adds interesting but gentle detail to the dress.

Miranda Kerr
Miranda is a doll in this dress. The dress is from one of my favorite designers: Oscar de la Renta. I enjoy how she chose to look "pretty in pink" and super sweet with everything from the full, tea length skirt, to her ballet bun, and even her bright lipstick.

Priyanka Chopra

This dress by Ralph Lauren is so unique, and definitely a statement. I love how it flawlessly combines a trench coat and ball gown. And of course let's not overlook that slit and those fierce boots!

Zendaya

Zendaya always wows me on the runway. Her entire look is absolutely stunning; from the Dolce and Gabbana gown with a beautiful bird print, to her natural hair, and matching red lipstick. The dress channels Beyonce's gown in her music video for "All Night" and Zendaya channels Beyonce's queen aura as well.

Springtime Bohemian

There's something about warmer weather that makes my style transition into being more bohemian. I love to take advantage of the warm but not yet hot weather with oversized layering, like this sweater. It's a great piece because it deviates from a jacket or cardigan, while still being comfy and not over the top. Accessorize with sunglasses and some gold jewelry and voila!
